How to live without lust

In todays society lust is barely noticed as being wrong. On the TV all our shows and movies are tainted with lust. Lust pollutes the youth of our countries and slowly pollutes their minds. Kids are being raised to believe that lust is ok. All of our ads, magazines and some books are ruined by lust. The worst part about this is that it is seen as ok in the eyes of the media and most people. Why do they not care, because they like it. I believe that America and other countries are slowly losing their moral values and ethical satndards because of lust and other sins. I tell you this not to scare you, but to imform you of what is happening. In the paragraphs below I will tell you how to refrain from lust, and how to control yourself from lusting.

Self control is one of the first steps when your trying to control your lust. Building that control is very important, because then you can learn to say no to things that cause you to lust. Willpower is the same thing as self control and if you don't have a lot of it you'll lust much more. Here are some tips on how to build that self control up.

1 Read the bible often

2 Remember bible verses that talk about lust and how to refrain from it

3 Think cleanly

4 Ask yourself is this really worth it

5 Tell yourself I'm better then this

6 Ask yourself is this what God would want me to do

7 Ask is this honoring God or is this honoring my family

8 Remember in your mind would your mom want you to do this, or would she allow this

Hopefully all those tips will help you gain a self control from lusting.

I believe one of the best ways to control yourself is to find something you can hold onto mentally or physically. What I mean by this is that you should find something that keeps you in line and brings you away from the temptation. Physically it could be a cross,bible or simlpy anything that reminds you of what your doing and how its wrong. Mentally it could be an image of Jesus, your mom, a verse in the bible, or your morals. Try to carry around that object or thought with you. So that when temptation strikes you, you can look at that object and remind yourself this isn't worth it. Also if you like to have a mental barrier just carry that thought with you, and bring it up when you think you are being tempted. When ever my mind strays I telll myself what would God want me to do.

Here are some quick tips on how to get your mind off lusting.

1 watch a clean movie

2 read the bible

3 read a book

4 Hangout with friends

5 play a game of cards

6 excercise

Those are only a few of many ways of getting your mind off lusting. Feel free to make up your own techniques. Everyone is different and has there own style. If it works for you then I like it.

Here is a quote from the Bible on Adultery Matthew chapter 5 verse 27-30

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in her heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into Hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin,cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into Hell

I love those verses because they apply to everyone. There isn't a person in the world who hasn't had lust in their heart. Now when he says gouge out your eye if it causes you to sin this doesn't mean in the literal sense. What he means by this is that if your eyes cause you to sin, then you need to cut out what causes your eyes to sin. For example If you look at a dirty picture or watch a bad movie. Find what causes you to lust and cut that out of your life. This will make it a lot easier to deal with lust. Most people lust because of an image or word. If you take this away you'll find that your mind will stray less often to those thoughts. Also you'll be able to control yourself a lot better without those things tempting you.

Here are some tips on how to retain from lust in the world. When your around people divert your eyes away from the troublespots. Also an old rule but still good just keep your hands to yourself. Plus when youv'e got that urge to look you can close your eyes, look up, look down, or anywhere away from that image. When your around a group of the oppsite gender, guard your thoughts. What I mean by this is that you have to monitor what your thinking. You control your thoughts, your bodily desires don't. Remember that you are in control of your body not the other way around. Also if your thinking about doing something that involves lust always ask yourself is it worth it. Their will always be people that are attractive to you, but its your job to control yourself and to not think lustfully.
